Information Architecture and Strategic Planning
As an important step in your site development we will structure the navigation, organizational layout, and content of your site to maximize ease of use. To ensure that your visitors will be able to access information quickly, easily and without confusion we address usability issues (ADA compliant), target market, interface protocols, user psychology and restructure offline information for the online medium.

Programming
Through an exacting process we are able to incorporate rich images and dynamic pages without sacrificing short download time. And based upon your site's need for total accessibility we can optimize your site for total compatibility with multiple browser and resolution formats. We use Php, Perl, DHTML and JavaScript to provide the necessary scripting to ensure that your site satisfies your development needs. For sites that require dynamic content, the ability to easily add new and change existing content, and want an easy way to allow visitors to contribute to the flow of ideas we offer scalable CMS (content management system) designs.

  WEB DESIGN SERVICES

Below are general definitions of some of the most commonly employed website design services that we offer.
For a listing of many of the cross-browser compatible scripts we use view our "JavaScript and DHTML Archive".

A.D.A. Site Accessibility - The American Disability Act requires that all links and images have description tags ("alt" and "title") so that audio readers can better navigate and appreciate a website (if you mouse over our text links and images a description will be seen). We are A.D.A. compliant in all our site designs.

Advanced Scripting - Used for advanced interactivity such as engaging image effects, browser redirects based on viewer's monitor resolution and operating system platform, guest books, responder forms, database queries, shopping cart applications, page counters, and more.

Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) - CSS coding is used to style a page or link pages to an attribute style sheet for easy updating of layout and text characteristics. Especially useful to achieve page design consistency and create "hyperlink" effects such as roll-over color for links. Older Netscape Browsers do not allow all CSS aspects.

Cross Browser Compatibility - Every web browser views code a little different. As needed we can design a site for you that will be very close in look and function the same in all popular web browsers, or redirect to a site version specifically designed for the viewer's own monitor resolution or operating system platform..

Flash - There are many great flash effects that can be applied to a site. Flash can be used to create animated header designs, interactive buttons and bars, image effects, animated intros, embedded sound, or as an entire site design. Flash requires that the viewer have the flash plugin.

Frames - Frames are typically used on the page left-side to provide fixed navigation while the content on the right-side frame changes as links are clicked. Frames are useful to to display large amounts of information while providing a consistent stationary framework, purposely hide URLs of content pages, and send visitors to other sites while keeping them within your own site framework. Internal frames (I-Frame) can be used to include content into an existing design from an external source such as another website, or another page on your site; internal frames can be dimensionally set in with and height to fit effectively in a columnar site layout.

JavaScript / Dhtml - JavaScript / Dhtml is an advanced scripting language that offers many great site enhancements such as roll-over interactivity for buttons, image effects, slideshows, date and time, page and form effects, calendars, and more.

MP3 Conversions - The conversion of CD music and other popular sound formats to MP3 for inclusion on a website We can also convert an mp3 into flash format for better web compression.

PHP / Perl - Two primary scripting languages used to code guestbooks, counters, email forms, search queries, shopping cart applications, and other dynamic applications that typically use a database.

Pop-ups - Pop-ups, "on click", can be an effective way to open up a linking page without leaving the page a guest is on, though it should be noted that some security settings will disable anything which appears to be an advertisement and popups will typically be viewed as such. Furthermore if an image or button links to a page that pops up then the image or link will be eliminated from the screen when security settings are set high. Pop-ups "on page load or timed" are often used to display advertisements or to load additional page windows . Of course a lot of sites use these but most people will find these annoying so they should be used very sparingly if at all.

Site Optimization & Meta-tags - The proper use of meta-tags (located in the "head" of the source code) will increase your site's ranking. We will evaluate your site for the keywords that will best reflect your site to be used in the keyword meta-tag, write an effective description for the description meta-tag, and use other meta-tags and design consideration best suited to get your website indexed for optimal web ranking.

Site Uploading / CD Backup - We will upload your website to the web host of your preference, manage your account, and create a cd backup of your site files as an added security procedure upon request.

Sound / Jukebox - Sound can be applied to a website with or without user control options such as a Jukebox. Often used for background music and on buttons, and incorporated by using JavaScript, Dhtml, or Flash. Sound is typically provided as an Mp3 or Midi file.

Tables - Tables are an html markup tag intended to provided data in a tabular format, though it is often used as a layout tool to align content in columnar or row format. Tables are generally not considered ADA compliant since the content is read from left to right, which will make some pages hard to navigate effectively for audio readers.

Text Assistance / Copy Writing - As experienced technical and freelance copy writers E. Curtis Designs can assist you in the selection of your text and will work with you to convey it in the most effective means possible. We will do the research necessary to strengthen the message of your site.
